STEAMER ON FIRE.

Tin; steamer Lord Stanley, which is berthed at Taranaki street wharf, is ou fire in No. J. hold, although the outbreak is not believed to ho of a serious character. The fire was discovered early this morning and orders were given to close the ventilators. batten down the hatches and inject steam. General cargo is stored in the Hold. Captain Cunningham does not attach much importance to the fire and is confident that so far as present indications go the ship’s company will he quite equal to dead with it. The steamer is from Now York via Australia, and after discharging here will proceed to Lyttelton,
