FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of tho Council was held last night, the Mayor (Mr J. B. Trewiu), in the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. From Pci Ming Lawn Tenuis Club, asking to be allowed to take water on to the club giouud.—Granted. From Mauawatu Kairnuga, Kiwitea, and Horowhenna County Councils, and Palmerston Borough Council, agreeing to take part, in a conference to diseries the advisability of forming a Rivi r Board District. —Ors. Goodbehero, Atkinson and Fitzherbert were appointed delegates and date of meeting fixed for 15th January at noon. From H. Roberts, asking permission to tap the water main in West street and conduct water to his section out of tho borough.—Granted, subject to conditions previously laid down for such cases.

From Feildiug Athletic Club, asking permission to provide water jumps on Victoria Park grounds for next sports.—Referred to Park Committee with power to act. From Health Officer, stating one case of scarlet fever iiad been [reported and two of consumption. From manager of abattoir, report ing that 78 cows, 31 bullocks, 7 calves, 319 sheep, 64 lamb:, and 78 pigs bad been slaughtered. The fees amounted to £56 2s 3d.

From A. Dwyer, lamp-lighter with other duties, asking for a month’s leave of absence. —Granted, subject to provision being made for carrying ou the duties.

From Beautifying Society, asking that water bo laid on to Manchester Square plots.—Agreed to. From" Pound keeper, stating that 315 head of cattle iiad been impounded and asking for lease of portion of Port street.—Council bus no power to lease any portion of street.

The Abattoir Committee recommended that if Messrs Ashby and Morgan will submit propoasls showing that a largo number of jugs are likely to ho dealt with the Council may make a reduction in the present killing charges, but could not allow' otlier than tho Council employees to slaughter at the .abattoir. —Adopted. Tho Engineer reported in favour of conducting flood water from Kimholtou road at Manchester street to enable tho proposed channel to he constructed down Kimboltou road, to curry the water. —The-matter was referred to the Works Committee. On the recommendation of a subcommittee it was decided to lease a portion of Root street at 5s per mouth. Also that the Engineer go over Root street from Pharazyn street with a view of cutting off several small streams that flood tho town. It was decided to invito‘tenders for protective works on tho Makino stream near North street crossing. The Engineer was directed to make inquiries whether a road roller can he obtained to set the ‘‘gravel ■in Kimboltou road, and failing that, to hire a traction engine. It was decided to hold a special meeting next Tuesday to consider street improvements and sew’orage extension.
