“READY MADE DIVORCE."

Per Press Association. Christchurch, Dec. 5. At a .Divorce sitting of the Bupremo Court to-day, Mr Russell appeared in support of an application for a dissolution of marriage, the ground alleged being the failure of the respondent to comply with an order for the the restitution of conjugal rights. His Honour said that ho had not seen the Act of last session. Ho supposed it had to bo submitted for the assent of his Majesty, but the Act was certainly intended to do away with that sort of thing. Mr Russell said that ho did not think the Act had any retrospective action.

His Honour said he thought there was a rosorvatiou to the effect that the Act should not prejudice any impendiug proceeding. He understood that from a press report, but if the assumption was wrong the decree would bo void, and Mr Russell would have to apply to have it rescinded. In the meantime he would take the law as ho fouud it at present. In granting the decree his Honour said that that form of ready made divorce had attracted the attention of Parliament, hut until the law was altered parties wore entitled to the advantages of the system.
