Tho ordinary fortnightly meeting ofiibovd was held last night, Mr J. \v. B. Trewiu (Mayor) in the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. From Palmer Engineering Co., stating that tho order for tho water purification plant hail hcen cabled to their principals.—Agreement necessary to he completed. |From E J. Riddiford. stating that water had been shut off from Ins paddocks.—Cause of complaint remedied, { From Ashby and Morgan, asking to be allowed to slaughter pigs at the abattoir for export, aud offering to pay Is a. head.—Referred to Abattoir Cnimittee. From Treasury, approving application for a loan of £BOO to instal freezing plant aud erect cool storage chambers at the abbatoiv. Also from Health Department, approving of plans for same.—Loan to be ob- , tained. From Oroua County Council, docliniilg to allow extension of abba- ! toir area in the County.—Mayor aud Cr. The cost on the lines planned would be £340, but if the mains wore carried along Awahnri aud Gieson’s road the cost would bo £15)0 in addition. Ho recommended that tho Council purchase another Jiorso for maintenance work, as tho iy?o horses of tho Council wore working almost tho whole time in watering cart. With tho permission of the Council lie proposed to divert the light traffic from tho Iviwitca bridge in order to complete the decking. .. . In considering the Engineer’s report the Council decided in reference to extension of water supply “That the Council cannot see its way to at present extend the water minus outside tho Borough, area,” Tho suggestion to temporal 113 stop traffic on the Kiwitea bridge was approved, aud also to purchase a horse, -It was directed that the Bngiuoer’s plans for street fncutH Ho on the table until next meeting for inspection of members oi the Council. ... . •' The Engineer was directed to mi prove tho condition of the Kmrbolton road footpaths by placing some clay on the rough metal. , . The Mavor said a few words ib praise of 'the public spirited ami liberal offer of Mr F. Y. Lctlirbulge, M.H.R., of 50 acres of laud tor a dairy school, and proposed ‘ That this Council gives its support to the establishment 01 a dairy school at Fei filing, and that a fconrmittco consisting of Crs. Bramjvoli;’ Goodboiiero, Richmond and the mover be sot up to draft a letter to the Minister, pointing out the advantage which Feildiug offers as a Site for the proposed dairy school. The motion was adopted. No tenders were accepted.
