THE DRUCE CASE.

Press Association—Copyright. Loudon, November 20. Miss Robinson .testified that she hoard from Dickons in 1860 that Druce was the Duke of Portland. She told Druce, who was angry and would not listen, hut in 1870 admitted it, saying he carried the name of Druce because he had a wife of that name below his rank. Miss Robinson wont to various places after 1870 at the Duke’s instructions, he visiting her at those places, but had a misunderstanding with him in 1876. Ho then paid her her earnings. She spent five years in the East. In 1897 she went to Now Zealand. Witness was severely cross-ex-amined. She stated that she knew this gentleman from 1808 onwards as Druce, whom she had seen at Tunbridge Wells and Richmond in 1803. Ho never told her he pretended to die in 1864. Sho was not aware before she arrived in England last February, that Druce, of Baker Street Bazaar, was supposed to have died in 1864. Sho stayed in the workshop to receive letters under cover. Until she was aware of the Duke’s identity she called him Druce. Sho volunteered the evidence. Sho did not arrange to receive expenses for the case, hut expected to ho paid hereafter. Sjie had some little money ou account. She denied knowing Caldwell in Christchurch. New Zealand, or Grundy m New Zealand. Miss Robinson shortly afterwards fainted, and the hearing was adjourned till Thursdayi
