An inquest was held “to-day concerning the death of Frederick Barrett, of Levin, which resulted from injuries received by an explosion of an ascetylene gas generator at his residence last June. The evidence failed to show how the explosion occurred. A verdict of accidental death was returned.,
An inquest' took place to-day touching the death of John Patrick McGowan, baker. 57 years of age, whose body was found in Wellington Harbour ou Sunday morning. When deceased ?s clothing was searched a Post Office Sayings Bank hook was found, showing he had drawn £8 on Friday. Ho was last seen alive at 8.30 ou Saturday night, when ho was refused a hod because he was somewhat under tho influence of liquor. A verdict of found drowned was returned. Gisborne, November 13.
William Pritchard, aged 10, was killed at Waerengaahika by being thrown from a horse. His skull was fractured.

Some time ago a man named Hans Wilson attempted to murder his wife aud was sent to a lunatic asylum. He was released recently as he was believed to have fully recovered iiis reason. He was a prohibited person aud was apparently behaving walk This morning, however, he fired three shots at his wife, all taking effect aud the woman is dead. He shut himself up in a room aud fired twice at his own breast and was removed to the hospital, but hopes of his recovery are slight. He was aged fifty, aud has five children.
