Nearly all ladies do ride astride nowadays and this was noticeable in tho show ring. They arc safer and bettor sn, but it was obvious that there was a difference of opinion yestorda;'. Here arc a few opinions on the ring displays Mr A. E. Russel}, Pitzhcrbert : “I don’t like it at all. No doubt the young slight Indies look well but not the stout ones."

Mr H. Rowling: “I like to seo women on horse back astride. It is the more natural mode of riding and better for the horse.” Mr J. R. MacLcnnau, YVaituna: “ I would give a lady riding astride double the prize of one riding on side saddle.”

Mr A. Campbell, Taonui: “I think it is alright and tho safest way for the lady and certainiy better for tho horse.” Mr R, if. McKenzie, Carnarvan: “It is alright for a young lady, tliough a stout lady would hot look so well. Undoubtedly astride is the best way to manage the horse, but for mere elegance 1 like to sec the old style.”
