The Triangular Match of 8 men aside between Great Britain, New Zealand and Bathurst Civilian Rifle Club provided an exciting finish, tho result being in doubt right up to the last shot. The final scores were ; New Zealand ... 751 Great Britain ... 750 Rifle Club 749 At 200 yards the New Zealanders wore 12 points behind the Britishers and S behind Bathurst. At 600yds New Zealand topped the score with 256. Bathurst 253, Great Britain 251. At the last range the New Zealanders shot splendidly. When the last man, Ayson, was firing he had to make a magpie to tie, and an inner to beat Great Britain who led Bathurst by a point. He brought up the inner disc amidst great excitement.
The light was bad and a fish-tail wind prevailed. General Gordon, the State Commandant, in congratulating the teams said the match would go down as a historic struggle. He said it was proposed to open a shilling subscription list for the purpose of securing a trophy for the Empire Match to be competed for annually. The public would have the chance of contributing during the match.
