Mr Lloyd George, addressing a Welsh National Liberal Convention at Rhyl, appealed to the nation to support him in every fair step to prevent a Railway strike. Ho declared that the House of Lords veto blocked the road to Paradise. Mr Haldane, at Rhyl, promised to create a Welsh Army division commanded by a general of their own, Loudon, October 31. Mr Asquith in a speech at Loveu said that what had taken place at the Colonial Conference aud the new Australian Tariff had combined eu- • ormously to strengthen freetrado in Britain. He challenged the Tory leaders to answer if in order to obtain Colonial preference they wore ready to tax foreign corn, meat, wood and wool. If Mr Balfour said “No” he would doom his authority with his party. If ho said “Yes” ho doomed tho fortunes of the party. That was rather a sordid spectacle.
