ST. STEPHEN’S SOCIAL.

Tho entertainment given by Sh Stephen’s choir last evening in aid of the Church Fund was a pronounced success. There was an exceptionally largo attendance and an excellent programme was presented. Tho first part opened with an overture by Mr Bert. Orozier’s orchestra, followed by “The Mystic Stave” by tho ladies of the choir. The cachuea dance by four young ladies was well received. “The Four Quakeresses” was tho next- number and received a well merited encore. Tho second part was also opened by the orchestra, and following this came “Box aud Oox.” This is a comedy of the old standard order and produced roars of laughter from tho situations which arise ns the result of the two gentlemen in the name parts encountering each other in what both believed to bo !ns apartment at the lodging house of one Mrs Bouncer, who had routed the same room to both men. There was not a single hitch throughout iho whole performance, aud the roles wore capably interpreted. As “Oox” the hatter who occupies too apartment by night, Mr R ; H. Coker gave an able characterisation, an-1 it was plainly seen that this gentleman is far above tho ordinary amateur, whilst Mr A. Sicoly’s portrayal of the part of ‘ ‘ Box, ’ ’ who is a printer working all night and using the loom by day, was very creditable and left little room tor improvement, and Mr Sicely must bo congratulated on his performance. Mrs Awdry was an ideal Mrs Bouncer and acted with a naturalness and ease that at once won for her the admiration of the audience. Any notice of the entertainment would be incomplete with out special reference being made to tho work of Mosdames Awdry, Sicely, aud Miss Kennedy, also to Messrs Barnett, Crozior, and Oqker, to whom the thanks of the committee are due.
