MARTON BOROUGH LOANS.
At Martou Borough Council meet-, iug last evening a petition was read from'seveuteen ratepayers opposed to the loan proposals, as follows: —(1) That wo emphatically object to our respective properties being included within the rating area for raising the loans of £ISOO and £4OOO, now t/oiug advertised; (2) we do so on the grounds that these properties, as in the case of Marten Extension, will, in the course of their being cut up, be called upon to construct their own roads without any assistance from . that portion of the Borough for which these loans are being raised, and it is manifestly unfair these properties should boar any part of the expense ; (3) we beg to point out that it is the use and custom in other districts where similar works, limited to a portion of such district, are carried out, to form a special rating area confined to such portion; (4) wo question that as such proposed loans are confined to portions of the Borough whether other portions can bo burdened with any part of the cost; (5) we tlieref: re request that our properties may be omitted from such area.
The matter was allowed to stand over pending further inquiries.
