(From Our Own Correspondent.) After a tew fine days the weather is very boisterous, with frequent heavy showers of rain, which is greatly hampering ’.farming operais almost over, with good results as regards percentage—from 106 per cent to, in some cases, 130 per cent. Shearing has Commenced in several sheds, but the weather is keeping it back. If it is fine afetr the Show shearing will he iu full swing. . ~, 1 afii informed that Mr F; Howe, saWniiller, of Pakihukura, is going to erect a sawmill •in Mr T. Williamson’s hush, close to tho township, as soon as he can get the machinery through, hut the roads are badly blocked, and have been for some time. . Our Literary, .and and Debating dub closed for the season oii Tuesday night with a hook social. In the absence of our President Mr Pearce, who-is hud up. with influenza, Mr Goldshury occupied the oh-air. About 60 were present, and 25 books were represented, _ Miss Lena Shannon taking first prize in tho guessing for ladibS, with 14 right, and Mr O. Oorpe first prize iu the guessing for gentlemen. Musical items wore also given by tho followingMr Goldshury, song I Miss McMnkin, song; Miss Paul, song; Miss M. Ackerman, reading; Mr H. Watkins, song; Mr M. J. Clarke, humorous song, “Tho Wheel of Life;’’ Mr E. G. Humphrey, reading; and Mr T. Mayhow gave nine selections on his t; heliograph. Supper was handed lonud and closed a very enjoyable evening. , . . , , The ladies ate holding a series of afternoon teas iu aid of tho Wesleyan Trust Fund, which we hope will bo crowned with success.
