SEARCH FOR A BURGLAR.
Per Pi ess Association Gj«t!Oene, October 15. Motu residents have been startled lately bv several mysterious robberies, and on all occasions bush camps or isolated dwell: hts have been the scene of operations. On Sunday a search party of five set out and half an hour's walk from the township brought thorn on some unmistakably fresh tracks, and proceeding cautiously they soou dropped upon the man, who was completely taken by surprise. One of the party, presenting a rifle, called upon him to surrender. For a momont the quarry stood motionless, and then with a bouud mode off into dense' bush, whither lie was pursued for half a mile and escaped. The party discovered his camping place, with the proceeds of the robbories. There is no doubt in the minds of the party that the man is Matouga, who was the perpetrator of bush robberies in Waiapu district, aud who for several years has been a fugitive from justice.
