FEILDING COURT.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9. . (Before Mr Thomson, S.M.) E. Edwards was charged on the information of the police with having used certain words to a prisoner on Feilding platform on September 30th, whereby a breach of the peace might have been occasioned. Accused was fined 10s, costs 7s. The Magistrate considered Sergeant Bowden acted perfectly right in bringing the charge. It was clearly the duty of the police to defend prisoners in their charge. _ Judgment was given in the following undefended cases : —H. B. Trevener v. J. O. Toy, claim £7 12s, costs Bs, solicitor 15s; W. H. Percival v. J. Martin, claim £3, costs ss, solicitor ss; Sutherland V. <3. Flyger, claim £2 8s 4d, costs 10s, solicitor 5s i L. M. Horrocks v. H. P. Wyattj claim £2 12s 6d, costs 9s, solicitor ss; Sutton and Co. v. A. Burton, claim £1 10s 2d, costs 11s; S. L. Paris, v, J, H. Bnckman, claim Go. costs 6s, solicitor 15s 6d. .Tu ament summonses were dealt with as follows: —H. F. Worsfold v J. Davis, for £1 18s lOd, ordered to pay forthwith, in default three days’ imprisonment; J, O. Fowler v. F. Burgess, for £5 17s 6d. _ To be paid forthwith in default six days imprisonment; O. ,E. Tnstin v. F. W, Mauey for £2l 13s 6d. To he paid at the rate of £4 a month in default three weeks imprisonment. E. Jackman (Mr Sandilands) v. R. J. Marr, claim £lB, balance of money alleged to be owing by defendant on a racehorse (Sylverie) leased from plaintiff. From the evidence it appears the lease was for two years, but no provision was made in the documents to when the percentage of winnings was to be paid. Defendant contended he was acting within the agreement. Any money owing to plaintiff would be paid on the expiration of the lease. Judgment was given' for full amount claimed with costs £1 6s, solicitor £1 6s.
