ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Maria Morris, aged (53, early on Saturday morning was seized with a fit when near the fire place at,her residence, To Earaka and fell into the fire where she lay until daylight. A boy aged 8 was the only other occupant of the house and did not observe anything wrong till getting up in the morning when seeing smoke cording from the room he wont out and caught a horse and rode a mile away for assistance. A relation on arrival found the place full of smoke and the woman lying terribly burned. Pie pulled her out. extinguished the lire, and medical assistance was obtained. The sufferer lingered till 10.30 p.m., when she died. She was - conscious almost *to the end, and gave a rational account of what happened. She stated she felt no pain at all. Auckland, October 9. A farmer named Exley Roberts has been drowned in the WaitomoJßiver, which is flooded.
