HOT BATHS FOR WHARF LABOURERS.

A Sarcastic Member.

Per Press Association. Wellington, October 1.

At a meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, it was resolved to obtain a_ report from the engineer on tho of establishing in proximity to tho waiting room, hot and cold water baths for the waterside workers. Tho mover, Mr Fletcher, said that oven in conservative England, leading employers recognised the benefit o 5 providing for the welfare of their employees. New Zealand was far behind in this matter. , Mr Beauchamp said he woula support the motion if Mr Fletcher would assist in getting a chiropodist, a manicurist, and a barber for the wharf labourers in their i own homes. These mon might not be able to look after their toe nails properly, and it would be a great advantage to have them looked after. In the course of their daily work their hands became soiled and their nails out of order, so it would be a great advantage to have a manicurist.
