MANAWATU A. & P. SHOW.

Tho Manawatn Agricultural Show, to bo hold at Palmerston North on the SOfcli and 31st October and Ist November, possesses very strongly those features winch in the eyes of the farmer and breeder are necessary to ensure a great show of pure-blooded stock, and also bo sufficiently attractive over the show period to bo popular with the public. Tho huge attondavtCQ of -soiha '40,000 achieved by this threo days' fixture is a confirmation of its exceptional popularity. How it is ensured may bo gathered by the very liberal support afforded to the live stock division, the bulwark of an Agricultural Show. Probably horses afford most fascination and pleasure to the general public. Recognising this tho largo sum of £SOO, besides cups and medals, is scheduled. All the popular classes for saddle and harness horses and ponies sio richly catered for. Tho Show Executive has always recognised the desire of tho public to witness really good hunting and riding events, in a reputation for which the Palmerston Show is unexcelled, as also for the big stands which accommodate some 5000 people, facing tho show ring. Tho four ladies’ classes are allotted £4O, gentlemen riders £72 in t-hreo classes with a fifty guinea challenge cup. Tiro cuttle and sheep schedules appeal to tho pocket of tho man on the land. Herein is a dominant feature cf tho Association’s liberality in building up a great live stock exhibition wherein tho cream of pure blooded animals are concentrated yearly. Cattle are apportioned some £4OO besides tho Association's champion medals and the New Zealand Jersey cattle breeders’ gold medals; sheep, £4lO in prizes besides the specials of the N.Z. Romney Marsh and N.Z. Sheep Breeders’ Associations’ and several valuable silver caps. Pigs are figured for £ll7 in six breeds. For horses, cattle, siicop, and pigs, the sum of £1427 in cash is offered, not including a large number of medals and cups. Many otherdivisions are maintained for dogs, poultry, homo industries, schools, and fine arts, to which, several hundred pounds are allotted. For a full schedule enquiries should bo addressed to the secretary, Air J. C. Lane, P.O. Box 85, Palmerston North.
