Wellington, September IG. Speaking at the dinner of tbs Bookbinders’ and Paper-rulers’ Society tonight Mr Millar referred to the proposed amendments to the Arbitration Act. He bad been urged by members of the Unions to legislate on the lines of the Victorian Wages Boards but bad refused as they did not recognise Unions whereas in Government’s proposals it was Unions v/bo would nominate the representatives on the Industrial Councils. He was sorry certain manifestoes bad been pub lisbed broadcast ’ perjudioing tbo BUI in tbo eyes of the public because be was now daily receiving communications from Unions in the country in favour of the bill. He bad been condemned wholesale y'et he bad done nothing that was nop in tlie interests of the Unions.
