BOXING.
Australasian Championships, Fress Association. Wellington, September 11. There was a very large crowd at the Opera House to-night to witness the final contests for the Australasian boxing championships. The spectators showed the keenest interest throughout and at times the enthusiasm was so great that the referee had difficulty in "quelling the uproar. BANTAMS. B. Lusher (N.S.W.) v. J, Parker (Christchurch). Lusher boxed in a very scientific manner and was awarded the decision amlds« hearty cheering. WELTER. J. Lane (N.S.W.) v. A. L. Nash (Christchurch) . Both men abandoned all pretence a. scientific boxing, and went simply tot I hard hitting. The Now South Welshman was counted out In the second spell, and Nash declared the winner amidst a perfect yell of enthusiasm. LIGHTWEIGHTS. D. White (N.S.W.) v. E. Mayze (Christchurch). . The latter won after an excellent set to. FEATHERWEIGHTS. A. Tresize (Ashburton) v. W. Elliott (Timaru). The contest afforded an excellent exhibition of the finer points of boxing, indeed it was the finest bout of the evening and was also superior to anything seen on the previous night. Victory went to Elliott. MIDDLE W BIGHTS. A. J. Scanlon (Queensland) v. L. Fletcher (Wellington). . . Scanlon’s tremendous though unscientific manner nonplussed the New Zealandei, who was beaten from the start.
