Ranfurly Shield Conditions
(Per Press Association.) New Pr-YJtouTH, September 5.
A statement at present appearing in some newspapers that tho return football match between Taranaki and Auckland at Auckland next week is tho Banfurly Shield match is incorrect. The local Union purposely decided a year or two back not to be challengers for the Shield even if had every prospect of winning holding that under tho present conditions attaching to the Shield a small Union could not afford to bo in possession 0i it. In local football circles it is urged that tho New Zealand Union should revise tho Shield conditions if it is tho desire that tho Shield should bo held by champion, province of the colony. So long as tho present conditions obtain Taranaki is unlikely .ever to be a challenger.
