Wool, Skin, and Hides

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as followsWe held our usual monthly sale of wool, skins, and hides at Palmerston North, and submitted a good representative catalogue under heading, which elicited good competition. Skins especially realised good figures. Wool: Orutchiugs 5d to 5%d, dead wool 7%d to B%d, crossbred fleece, hag lots, 7%d. Skins: Full woolled crossbred 7%d to Bd, fine crossbred to B%d, part dry crossbred 7s 9d to 8s Gd each, heavy woolled crossbord, part dry, 13s Gd, dead skins 6%d to 7d, inferior 4d to sd. Hides; Medium cow 4%d to 4)*l, heavy cow 4%d to to i-m, medium ox 4%d, heavy ox 44*1, cow, cut, 4d to sound calves’ skins G%d to 7d, calves’ skins, cut. od to 51£d. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual monthly wool, skin, and hide sale at Palmerston North. There was a fair of buyers, and bidding for skins was especially brisk. Wool; We offered a small catalogue, consisting mostly of crutchiugs of medium and inferior quality. Prices were on a par with last sale. Crossbred inferior 7%d to 7}£d, dead 7%d to B%d, locks and pieces 3%d, bellies and pieces inferior crutchiugs 4>£d to 4%d, medium 5d to 5%d, washed locks 4>£d. Skins: We offered some very good lines, a number being in damp condition; prices were on a par with last sales; there was keen competition for every lot offered. Crossbred full wool 8d to B%d, half wool 7Vd to 7%d, seedy dead hoggets 6d to Gd, dead to dead pelts to 4>£d, lambs 7d to 7%, shorts inferior to 4%d, butchers part dry and green 5s 10d to 6s and 8s Id for good heavy skins, one extra heavy line realising 13s. Hides: Prices were slightly firmer than last sale. Our offering consisted principally of medium cows and ox. Medium to heavy ox 4}td to ad, light steers and ox i%d to 41*1, cows 4>4;d to 44*1, cows, cut,, 4d~cows slippy to 3%d. Calfskins : Good competition at last sales rates; good 6>£d to G%d, yearlings 4%d, cut and meaty 4j4d to sd, slippy 21*1 to 3d, dry Is Bd. Sundries; Tallow in tins 31s Gd, in casks 35s 3d ; horsehair Is 4d, tails Is 4d per dozen.
