UPPER WANGAEHU ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held on Friday at 4 p.m. P r ®’ sent: Messrs R. Lilbnrn(chairman), J. Brewer, T. W. Williams, H. Wilson, H. Collier. W. Straohan, and E. W. White. 3 „ The Ohaiman reported that the Wanganui County Council had decided to contribute £75 towards the cost of putting the Te Moehau-Moa-whango county road in order, on, condition that the Upper Wangaehu Road Board agrees to same being declared a district road. It was resolved to accede to the request of the presented a petition to I the Board, signed by Dumber of ; ratepayers, praying the Boar raise a loan for the purpose o ! tinning Livingston’s road to Mr McHardy’s junction and to connect 1 Hales’ road with the Turakina Valley road,' by the road known as Wilson s road.' The petition wished a special rating area to be made, having the same’, boundaries as the Ruanui loan area .l_lt was resolved that the foreman be instructed to report as to the cost of construction of Wilson s road, and also the construction of Hales’ road . , ,
The Foreman’s report was read and received. He gave an estimate for rebuilding the Willow and Poplar bridges.—lt was decided not to rebuild these at present. The report also stated that the Rangiwaea road up the Turakina was as bad as it is possible for it to be, and the River road was also in a bad state, two large mobs of cattle having been along and cut the road up considerably. Progi’ess payments were due to Titter and James, J. MoOartie, and J. Murphy, and balance of contract was due to P. Hackett. It was resolved that the Foreman be instructed to complete J. Connolly’s cancelled contract by day work. The clerk was instructed to reply to Mr J. MoOartie that the Board cannot see its way to take oyer his contract until the whole is completed. It was decided that Mr btrachan be authorised to let the contract on the Owhakau road from the bridge to Mr Crowley’s section. A letter was received from Mr G. D. Goodrich, of Ngawaka, re state of the roads in his district.—The clerk was instructed to reply that the Board intends to put the roads in good order this summer, and also to advise Mr Goodrich as to the other matters mentioned in his memo. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lauds re hypothecation of thirds and expenditure of Rangiwaea loan. —It was decided to acknowledge receipt of letter, and state that the several matters mentioned will have the attention of the Board. A memo was received from the District Road Engineer re dray road formation on Owhakura road. Prom Berg Bros., with regard to sureties required for right of laying trawmay on Hautapu bridge,—The clerk was instructed to see the Board’s solicitor re preparing same. It was decided to see what steps could be taken in the matter of acquiring a road access to the property of Mr T. W. Williams,..-, at MataToa, Mr Williams to report fully at next meeting.
