FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held last evening the Mayor, Mr W. J. E. Trowin in the chair. COERESrOKDEKCE. From W. A. Sandilands, on behalf o£ property-owners in Kimbolton road, requesting the Council to proceed with the improvements o£ the street as outlined in the loan proposal. —In the hands of the Engineer to supply estimate of cost of work required. From Mrs Sherwiil, stating that unless an equal area was taken on the corner opposite her property for widening McArthur-street she would rather not part with any. From J. C. Thompson and Mrs Wrightson, asking the Council to take over Yorkstreet. —Council declines to reconsider decision of last meeting.' From Health Inspector, reporting four cases of scarlet fever and stating that some dwellings in the sewerage area, but not yet connected, were very insanitary. ' The Abattoir Inspector reported that during the month 138 cattle, one calf, 01 pigs and 383 sheep had been slaughtered. Ten sheep, one pig and two cattle and been condemned.
The Foundkeeper reported having impounded 87 horses, 57 cows, 57 sheep, and one hull during the month. The fence needed to be repaired.—Eeferred to Works Committee.
The Engineer reported having had the gravel of the filter bod at the septic tank taken out and thoroughly washed. He had let a contract for cement washing the walls of the abattoir. He recommended that the willows along the Makhlo stream be topped. Moved by Cr Tolly, That a committee consisting of Crs Brain well, West, Eiohjnond and the mover, with the Borough Engineer, be set up to report on street improvements and submit estimates of Bime,—Seconded by Chairman. The Mayor and Cr Goodhohere added to commitee and motion carried. Cr West moved. That the Engineer report to next meeting as to the best make of mechanical filter to be installed for the Feilding waterworks, and that the same bo ordered f*ora the maker as soon as possible.— Seconded by Cr Eitzherbert and carried. The Engineer’s report was adopted. It was decided to suggest to the Beautifying Committee that it would be advisable to remove the rosary now being Erected on tho plot in Manchester Square to Denbigh Square. ' The Stall Committee’s report relative to furnishing Council Chamber at a cost of .£145 and additions to offices was held over till next meeting, The tender of Mr Eiclmrdson of £2G Gs for erection of loose-boxes, and the tender of A. O. Smith of JE2SO 2s Gd for erection of cottage at reservoir were accepted. Decided to enquire from Treasury whether a loan of .£xoo 0 would be available for the establishment of a cool store at the abattoirs.
