Further evidence was given to-day bv James Marchhauks, ougiuocr-iu. charge of tho Wcllingtou-Manawatu Railway Company, and by Alfred L. Beattie" chief mechanical engineer of tho Railway Department, in support of, tho efficiency of tho Westing, house brake, it being considered tha(j the accident was tho result ofthp brake having been tampered with, It is expected that tho evidence will be concluded to-morrow.

September 3, Acting-Guard Dwyer, examined, said ho did not know tho engines were uncoupled until ho was pulled out of the wreckage.
