ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
A painfully end case of attempted suicide occurred in Palmerston North yesterday morning. At about 10 o’clock a woman was noticed by two men shading a little distance from tbs town side on the piUherbert bridge, to suddenly got under the railing on the Esplanade side and out on to the pipe and throw herself into the stream. Fortunately the current.at the place where she jumped over, only a few feet from the right bank, has a strong set iu towards the willows planted there. Mr W. N. Cathro and a companion lost no time in getting to the waterside, and wading out a little 'distance • succeeded in bringing-the woman ashore.
The victim o£ suicidal tendency proved tcj be lifts Jghu Q’Connor, a married woman some 47 years of aye and fttymevly a resident of Awapuni, but latterly of Oanipbellstreet, Jhe police were communicated with and Serneant gtagpaole and Detective Quirks proceeded tp the scene and lost no time in having the poor creature oared for.
We understand that Mrs O’Connor rose as usual yesterday morning at about G. 30 and prepared breakfast for her husband. She left her home id fifth) after 9 o’clock and hurst' have gone ‘direct towards the Fitzherbert Bridge, and there committed tbp rash act. It is reported that her mind had become temporarily unhinged by ■ domestic troubles.
