THE STUD.

Surrey Chief, advertised by Alessrs Ellis Bros, to-day, is a beautiful brown horse rising five years, stands 17 hands, with plenty of bone audhair of the right quality, is particularly well come ou both sides and in consequence cannot fail to leave his mark on his progeny, a characteristic that all breeders should pay particular attention to, as without good parents it means that tho offspring is more or less a misfit. Tho stock of the well known hackney “ Galantine” are coming more and more to the front. Prepotency of tho hackney is well known by his admirers to bo one of his many strong points and there is no doubt that the above horse, with his exceptional good breeding, is demonstrating it to the full. When it is taken into consideration that this horse’s stdek have only been shown three seasons and have taken over 20 first aud second prizes at tho principal shows in the North Island, it must be looked upon as a truly marvellous performance, in fact is quite an object lessou, helping brooders to realise why the hackneys wero quite the feature of tho finest -horse show the'world has ever soon, viz, at the International Horse Show at the Loudon Olympia, where the hackneys were 'victorious all along the lino. For action, stylo and hardihood this breed wore awarded the palm.
