Saturn iu the constellation Capricoruns aud about 30 degrees to the north-east of the bright, star Fomelhaut becomes a striking object in the north-east heavens soon after dark. Ho culminates at a very groat altitude on the 25th instant at 1.5 a.m., aud on the 30th at 0.44 a.m. His ring is practically closed up, aud almost invisible iu consequence, after having been open for 14 years. The apparent absence of the ring gives Saturn the same aspect as that of the other planets. His ('polar diameter is 18 seconds of arc, and the calculated length of the ring 45 seconds. Sa turn will bo in opposition to tiro sun on Sontombor 18th. L. A. MACDONALD.
