Sir W. Lyue, iu reply to questions relating to the wire seizure incident, stated that tho ordinary process of law will bo relied upon to support tho'authority of the Commonwealth.
A deputation of timber merchants asked-- the Minister of Customs to give increased protection to Australian timbers. The admission was made chat Queensland timber is not so suitable as Now Zealand pine for butter boxes. A suggestion was made that reciprocity bo arranged with Now Zealand so that pine could be admitted free in return for Australian hard woods being placed on tho New Zealand free list.
Another deputation asked for concessions in connection with the boot and leather industries. Mr Bailey, ox Sydney, hoped that the duty ou skivers would _ bo retained as if this was done his firm would remove their plant, at present in New Zealand, to Australia and start manufacturing skivers.
