A TRAIN DERAILED.
Per Press Association. Grevmoutu, August 19. An accident happened yesterday morning to a jnassouger tram from Otira to Grey whereby the engine and three cars were derailed. Tho train laid only gene three miles of tho journey when the driver noticed a big rock coming tearing down tho hill. Ho whistled for brakes which were promptly applied, but tho line was covered with snow and the rock struck the cowcatcher of the engine and rebounding struck the first car. The engine and three cars were derailed. In the front car wore two passengers who wero thrown off their seats but not injured. The engine driver and fireman stuck to their posts. Tho engine and cars wore severely damaged, tho axle boxes being broken and the. cow-catcher carried away. A gang of men loft town and had t!:« lino cleared by noon. Passengers for Christchurch got through to-night. The place where tho accident happened is i close by the 4-7 mile peg and is considered very dangerous.
