LOSS OF A BARQUE.
Per Tress Association. GisiioiiNE, August 16. News §bas Ibaou received at Gisthat wreckage has been found at Great, Barrier belonging to the overdue barque Constance Craig, locally evened. The wreckage includes a board with her name, cabin fitf'-iutrs, and skylight, it is feared that all hands wore lost. The vessel was owned by Oapiaiu Kennedy and 'Ur E ,T. C'hrisp. A steamer is being despatched to search the islands in the hope of finding the “The Constance Oraig was insured for 52600 in the North Queensland. The loss to ( ho owners will probably bo fully £3OOO above that amount. When the vessel was last at |Gisborue she was supplied with a completc. outfit of new sails, her old sails having suffered damage during a. storm in'the Bay of Plenty on the vessel’s voyage from Newcastle, when she had a perilous experience. Mr Bridged, chief officer, loft her at Gisborne to go up for examination. and was to join the barque at Hokianga. The Constance Craig’s crew were : Captain Finlay Peterson, Sydney; K Peterson, mate, Sydney; H. Lewis, second mate, Auglosea, aged -18; Macdonald, A. 8., ; H. Hausen, Brooklyn, aged 21; T. Brown, Perth, aired 3(>: M.' Keogh, Liverpool, aged 21; J. Nelson, sailmakor, Liverpool, aged In; A. Stein, R. Boberts, F. Mackiu (cook and steward), A. Mallon (Norway), aged 81. The Constance Craig was formerly known as the Margarita. The following men Joined the ship at Gisborne to replace others transferred to the barquoutiuo lima:— Lev,-is, Mallet, Hausen Brown, Keogh, and Nelson.
