Per Press Association Dukedom August 12. At the annual meeting of the Council of Churches to-night it was decide;! to invite Dr "Wilber F. Crofts to visit "Dunedin, with the object of giving ternneranco addresses. It was complained that there was no improvement with regard to Sunday trading, except as far as children were concerned. On the subject of bottle licenses coming up, the fact of the police not being able to enter such premises was common ted upon and the opinion expressed that there should be legislation in the matter. H was resolved that it be referred to the executive to take such immediate action as may be deemed fit to secure an improved condition of things. The totalisator came in for condemnation and a motion was carried that "the Council of Churches expresses an earnest hope that legislation will be adopted during the present session alwig the lines indicated, by the Premier in his reply to the deputation which waited upon him. At the same time it deeply dcnlores the fact that noeffort is to be made at present to abolish the total: isator. 'which a large section of the ccniinunity regards as giving Government sanefion to rm insidious, injurious, and immoral habit.
