(From Our Own Correspondent). Lambs are already pleutii'nMji the district, and there "is every indication of a favourable seas-cu. Last week's rain will do a a enormous amount of good, as the- late frosts v. ere' beginning to show cheer on "Ought there to ho a ta>; 0:1 bachelors?" was the "subject for debate, at the last meeting of the Delating Society. The ladies -wore well represented and the baciielors came in full force to protect their rights. The various speeches caused great amusement. -Miss A. Ross and Mr I'\ S. Guy led for the affirmative and Messrs j. Decke and S. McMillan for the negative. The casting vote of the President gave the baciielors the victory. Owing to bis rune being so "fully cceupied with the technical classes Sir j. Matthews will be unable to represent Apiti at the debate with Kimboltou. Mr S, McMillan has been substituted. There is still a brisk demand for land here. Two new firms have started businesses.
