TAIHAPE.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The hockey club are paying great •attention to practice and in their match with Marton on Wednesday next should, more than hold their own. I hope, therefore, to see a very interesting match on that day. A man named James Woodgate was killed on Tuesday evening last while ascending the cliffs on the other side of the Rangitikei at Moki, Patea. An inquest was held by the District Coroner on the station of Messrs Eidcliford and McDonell before a jury of which Mr John Cooper was foreman. A verdict was returned that deceased was accidentally killed by the horse he was riding falling on him. The deceased was a married man and leaves a widow and two little children entirely unprovided for. This offers an opportunity for charitably disposed persons to give a practical example of their charity. Any information can be had from the local constable at Taihape as to , the case.

An energetic movement has been 1 made to establish a hospital at Taihape and we trust that it will not be long before a hospital worthy of the requirements of our extensive district will soon be an established fact. There would be no doubt about the matter if there were more men of the stamp of Mr Joseph Stndholme. This gentleman is entirely responsible for this latest effort as he really convened the meeting and showed the sympathy and interest he lias in the establishing of a hospital in Taihape by at once heading the list of subscriptions with the handsome donation of £IOO. Mr JAldworth, of Silverhope, lias also raised a similar sum for the above project. With such men as these already noted at the li6ad of affairs the success of the hospital is assured. A good site for the hospital has been set aside. Plans are already in hand for a start, to cost about £1350 and a large and influential committee has been formed representing the whole of the surrounding districts from Silverhope to Ohakune.
