.From Our Own Correspondent, A resident of tills town Avas"halod before two J. ’sP. yesterday for allowing stock to wander at Jjlargo about tim streets. During the past few mouths fences, gardens and footpaths 'have suffered severely, and now that the sea-on is coming round to plant vegetabh's, etc., it is to bo hoped owners of cattle and horses will secure them, thus saving further anx;ct;y or trouble. At a" meeting of footballers last evening Mr W., Mmikloy occupied the chair, when it was decided to hold a fancy dress football match and a grand ball to follow. The lady enthusiasts have taken the matter up with a will and everything points to a very successful torminat ton of the favourite winter sport. ! Tiie shooting season, which closed last month, was a rather slow pas- ; time up (bis war. Game of any description was bard to find, ‘ and harder to'shoot when you did manage to locale it. Many hundred applications have been sent to the Commissioner of • Grown Lands from Mangaweka and i district for a. chance “shot” to) secure a bite out of the North Wai- i marine block, to be balloted for this j month. .Some of the applicants, no doubt, will make first class farmers, but some who have sent in applications could not toll you the difference between a double-furrow plough and an ordinary garden hoc.
