THE WEBB RECEPTION.

(Per Press Association.) Wanganui, August 10.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Webb reception this morning attention was drawn to the fact that a few newspapers wore taking a hostile attitude towards the presentation movement. It was pointed out that the opposition was based on a misconception of the spirit in which the appeal is being made. The intention was merely to afford opportunity to those resident in other parts of the colony to subscribe towards reasonable recognition of Webb’s ' achievement, which is almost universally regarded by the press as a national event, and there is no intention to appeal to Government.
