ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per gross Association.) Dunedin, August 8.
James Banks Etheridge, aged t>6 years, residing in the city, was found dead in bod this morning. Death is supposed to have been duo to heart disease. Deceased went to bed in ids usual health and spoke to his wife at 5 a.in. but was found dead about an hour laier. CiIBISTOUOKCU, August 8.
At the inquest held to-night touching the death of George Smith, commercial traveller, who died suddenly ou the Christchurch railway platform shortly after his arrival by train, a verdict was returned that death was due to syncope. Auckland, August 8.
Mr O. A. Gray, of Northcote, and his daughter, Miss Gray, wore driving in to catch a boat this morning, and were just abreast of an embankment when the breaking of a bolt in the shaft caused the horse to swerve so suddenly that before Mr Gray could do anything to avert it 11 m horse, tran and occupants wore precipitated over the bank, a fall of nine or ton feet. In the fall Sir Gny was struck on the head and rendered unconscious, but his daughter happily escaped with a severe shaking. Mr Gray recovered con sciousncss during the morning, and is now progressing satisfactorily towards recovery. W hen the upset occurred the horse kicked itself free of the buggy and bolted home, while the vehicle itself was considerably damaged. Taiiiai’E August 9.
The victim of the Moawhaugc riding fatality was James Wooagate, well-known resident of Utiku, not Thorn, as previously reported. GirEVMOUTn, August 9.
Eric Asturlaud, an- A.B. ou the barque Ganymede, got caught between a railway truck and a mooring post and was crushed. Ho died in half an hour. *9 .
