THE QUIRINDI TRAGEDY.
Press Association. —Copyright. Sydjwe, 'August 6. Tofft, concerned in tiio Quiriucli murder, has been arrested. The evidence at the inquest iu the Quirindi tragedy disclosed an atrociously cold-blooded crime. Tiio mother’s evidence showed that Tofft decoyed the girl to a neighbouring house aud thrashed her severely. The mother with her family _ waited outside her residence awaiting .her husband’s return, he having gone for the police-. Tofft appeared, and the women aud children ran into a paddock of wheat. Tofft ran after them and put his gun on top of a wire fence. The family all gob through the fence. Witness hung on to' Tofft and said “Tor God’s sake don’t shoot my child.” leant the gun on the top wires aud fired at witness’s daughter, Maud, who fell, crying out “Oh, mother.” Tofft rushed through the fence aud started belting into Maud with the jgun as she was lying down. The girl was only 1(! years of age.
