ARBITRATION COURT.
Farm Labourers’ Award, Per Press Association. CiiKiSTCiruncn, August §. The Canterbury farm labourers’ application for an award came before the Arbitration Court this morning. Over 7,000 farmers from all parts of Canterbury wore cited and so many attended that the Court room was crowded out, and the doors had to bo locked to prevent the ingress or additional defendants. W. Jones, president of North Canterbury branch of the Farmers’ . Union, in the course of a lengthy argument contended that th.sre was actually no dispute between the farm workers and the {jiaployers and that the case had been brought prematurely. The Court reserved its decision on tho question as to whether a dispute actually existed or not, and the President stated that if it were held that tho case was properly before the Court the whole matter would bo referred biy the Court to the Conciliation Board for investigation and report. ■ Mr T.. Teschemakor, who represented the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Uniopj pomplained that his Union had been brought before tho Court on matters that did not affect them.
