lues's Association. ’ ' ' Dunedin; August 3. Ambrose Phillips till recently .".'baker at Caversbam threw himself beneath the wheels of the train at Caveraham to-night. He was cut in two and disembowelled before the eyes of his wife who was with him on the platform. Mr and Mrs Phillips bad returned by the train from Mosgiel. The act was as sudden as it was unexpected and was witnessed by two railway officials■■ who■ were not in time to prevent the tragedy. Deceased was a- baker for 30 years ■in Caversbam where he was 'lunch respected. He possessed_ a par-, fiiculariy sanguine temperament till quite lately when he sold his business after wijich he eapie melancholy ant} gonipJajncd of having sold it at a loss. The act was apparently unpremeditated and ij; was thought that deceased was s«id= clenly seized with a fit of madness. Ills wife is in a state of collapse. Deceased was 01 years "old and had a grown up family of sons and daughters,
