Soon after the kick out play was located in midfield for a while and a line out saw three inside Wairarapa men unmarked. SECOND SPELL. In the second half Wairarapa quickly adopted aggressive tactics Minett, Thompson, Henderson and Groube all doing good work for tho home team. '1 he last named smothered Downes’ return but the latter saved tho situation by forcing. On tho kick out the visitors rallied temporarily but McKenzie, Wairarapa’s stalwart full-back, sent a beauty into tench past half way. Kinzett supplemented with a smart run and Manawatu was compelled to force again. On the drop out Wairarapa returned to the attack. First Eout and then Pirani attempted to pick up but, both failing, Anslow dived in to the rescue and smartly found tho line. On being downed he lost possession but recovered again and got his kick in, finding the line. The visitors kept up the pressure and looked like scoring when Minett marked and kicked out to half-way. Manawatu were again called on to defend their line. Downes kicked out in front of his own goal where Walsh was standing. Wairarapa forwards kept on running over the top of the visitors’ sorummers. Bert McKenzie here retired with a sprained ankle, and Groube, who was playing the best back game for Wairarapa, caused the visitors to force twice in quick succession. McNae and Shadbolt were chiefly responsible for Manawatu rallying, Wairarapa were now reduced to thirteen men, Groube being carried off, his ankle, too, having been ricked.
