AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE.
Per Press Association. Wellington, August 1. At the Agricultural Conference resolutions were passed to the following effect: That Government be asked for an annual subsidy towards holding a Royal Show each year alternately in the North and South Islands; adopting the Committee’s recommendation making the ear mark supersede the brand on sheep, all marking to be done with tools stamped with the Government mark. These recommendations were agreed to on the understanding that the Department submit to the societies a bill drafted on the lines

That the Executive be re-elected and one member from' Canterbury, Otago, Southland, Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay combined, Marlborough and Nelson combined, Manawatu and Taranaki with the Executive form a permanent committee to carry out the resolutions of the Conference, such com- - mittee to consider the federation of all societies into a Royal A. and P. Society of New Zealand. . That Government should give pastoral tenants every oLCOiiragement to improve the carrying capacity of their runs. A series of resolutions were adoped calling for better facilities for railing especially to and from shows. Resolved: — That stock inspectors be empowered to put tho cull brand on cows condemned as unfit for dairying, but which are otherwise fit for fattening. . That when tho inspection of dairies is taken up the Department’s inspectors •should fdireot tho attention of dairy farmers to the necessity of testing! their herds by weighing and testing each individual cow’s milk. That in case of the Department requiring any permanent improvements in sheds or yards the cost should be borne by the owner if the tenant’s lease has not more than five years to run. The Conference then closed. The next Conference will be held at Auckland.
