ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Press Association. DtfHSDiK, July 81. Tba Inquest on the body of Jama* Arthur, "who died at North-east valley as the result of an accident on the duplication works, on March 6th, was held to-day. Medical evidence showed that death was due to paralysis, resulting from ft fractured spine. The evidence of railway officials was to the effect that the shunting engine bumped into a truck, knocking deceased down as ho was about to release tbo brake. ■y returned a verdict that deceased met bis death by being accidentally thrown from a railway truck.
Auckland, August 1. A young mail named Patrick Kelly, a fireman employed on the railway works at Remuera, when assisting to shunt loaded trucks, slipped on the lino and had his right leg almost completely severed just beolw the knee. The limb was am-
putated at the hospital and it is expected lie will recover. Mastektox, August 1. ”3
News was received in Mastertou to-day of a fatal accident at Tenui, the victim being a girl named Anuio Felliugbam. Deceased was riding to school on horseback, when the horse bolted and the girl was dragged some distance along the road" with her foot caught in the stirrup. The. child only lived a few minutes.
Eeefton, August 1. W. Ntkld, late of Murchison, was taken suddenly ill and died lu the hospital. Death, according to the doctor’s evidence, was the result of internal bruises, but it is not known how they occurred and the man made no mention of any fight or accident to the Matron.
