ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Press Association. Dunedin, July 30. James Arthur, a single man, 28 years of age, has died at North-east Valley as the result of injuries sustained on the railway duplication works at Caversham, on March 6th. While deceased was unloading sand from the trucks the engine bumped the trucks against a sleeper, and Arthur was crushed. He was taken to the hospital whore he remained for two months, being then removed to his home. An inquest will be held. Auckland, July 20.

Auckland City Council’s foreman reported that at 9.15 to-day a blasting accident occurred at the stone-crusher at Mount Eden. One of the men was loading a powder hole, and while putting powder down to the bottom of the hole with a tamping bar an explosion occurred. A man named Win. Heares had his arms badly lacerated below the elbows, the hemorrhage being very bad. His right leg was also hurt. Ho was sent to the hospital. Another man, Benjamin Smith, had the back of his right hand skinned and his left arm burnt. Napieb, July 30. At the inquest on the body of William Henry Mooney the jury returned a verdict of found drowned hut stated that there was no evidence to show how deceased got in the water. Gisboknb, July 31.

One of the Hawke’s Bay MotorBus Company’s coaches met with a serious accident at Tiuiroto to-day. In crossing over a slip on the road it overturned and fell down the hillside, turning over twice. The driver and tho one -passenger escaped injury, as did also the horses, which were cut clear, but the coach was smashed to pieces.

A telephone message from Duncan’s station yesterday morning states that a man named Foote had been drowned in tho Tnrakiua River. Ho was walking round the river bank on his way to work and accidentally slipped in and never rose again. Constable Gray has proceeded to the station to assist in the recovery of the body.
