High Commissioner’s Report
Per Press Association. Wellington, July 22. Following is the High Commissioner’s cablegram dated London, July 20th The mutton market is firm. Stocks on hand are light and firmly held in few hands. Canterbury mutton 4?jjd, North Island 4d. ' lamb market is firm with good demand for all clase. Stocks on band are moderate. Canterbury lamb 5%d, other than Canterbury 0&d.
The beef market is quiet but firm at 3%<1 and per lb for hinds and fores respectively. Supplies of American chilled beef on hand are small. , . , , The butter market is qttiet but steady. Prospects for this commodity for next season are doubtful. At present everyone is inclined to hold back as long as posisble, thereby forcing the market price down. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 995, Danish 'lo9s, Siberian 9s, Irish 100 s per cwt. Large suppiles are corning forward. The cheese market is steady, and good demand is experienced. Oandian supplies are likely to increase. New Zealand 61s, Canadian white 575, and coloured 58s. The hemp market is quiet, With a tendency in favour of ( buyers. Reports from Manila indicate that heavy shipments are expected from there. Good fair grade on spot is quoted at £35 10s, fair grade £3O 10s, July-September shipments good fair grade £34 10s, fair £3O; fair current Manila on spot £36. , The cocksfoot seed market is firm. Buvers, however, have been offering more freely, and bright 171 b seed is quoted at 68s per cwt. Quotations for Bradford tops are : 60’s, low crossbreds, Is J£d; 40’s, low crossbreds, Is 4,5-^d; 40’s medium crossbreds. Is o^d; 50’s, halfbreds, Is 9d; 56’s, quartorbreds, 2s o>gd; GO’S, merinos, 2s 4d per lb. Arrivals from River Plate during the month of dune were Mutton: London 123,274, Liverpool 203,576, Hull 8429, Newcastle 10.138, Cardiff 11,022, Southampton 590, Ireland 2360, Plymouth 1892. Lamb: London 10,874, Hull 1000, Liverpool 16,730, Newcastle 1000, Cardiff 500, Southampton 376, Plymouth 800.
