FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tho monthly meeting was hold last night. Present: Crs. Darragh, Oobbo, Atkinson, Tolley, Richmond, Bramwell, Goodbohere, Fitzberbert, and the Mayor, Mr J. B. Trowiu. The inward, correspondence was dealt svith as follows: — From Beautifying Society asking that plots in Manchester Square be drained.—Work to bo done under direction of Engineer. From Mr Roadie, newly-appointed Engineer, stating that he would commence duties on the 83ud. From ponudkoeper and ranger, resiguing his duties.—Accepted, and applications to bo invited for position. From Messrs Prior and Gillespie, stating that Mr Mcßoth refused to sign the easement giving the Council tho right to place drainage pipes through his laud.—The Mayor explained that tho pipes had been put through without the easement having been acquired, and Mr Mcßeth’s reason for refusing to give it was that the pipes had not been put low enough.—lt was decided to defer the matter until the Engineer can have time to report on it. Mr Prior waited on tho Council on behalf of the section holders of Macarthur street, and pointed© ut that the Colonists’ Laud and Loan Corporation had sold all its laud in the street, and suggested that if the Council had taken action when the street was first formed the Corporation would have been compelled to have Completed the work. Ho thought the cost would bo about £l5O, and said the owners of the adjoining laud would pay half the cost.—lt was resolved that tho Council cannot depart from its previous resolution in regard to Macarthur street, but if the work is completed in accordance with the request of tho Council, the Council will consider the question of paying the cost, re-forming and metalling tho roadway, and taking over tho road when completed. It was resolved that the applications of Dr. McAllum, Messrs Wunch, Glasgow, Smith, Browning, Currie, Newman, Downer and Amadio bo referred td tho Works Committee, and that T. J. Evans be referred to Borough foreman. That Mr Dwyer he asked to continue the duties of turmcock, lamplighter, and inspector at a salary of £3 10s a week for the present, and that the question of amalgamating these dirties ho referred to the Staff Committee to report. Crs. Goodbehere, Fitzberbert, and Atkinson were appointed a subcommittee of works. The recommendations of the Cemetery Committee, which wore as follows, wore adopted:—That tho Oroua County Council ho requested to instruct their ranger to keep cows off the railway line and road in the vicinity of the cemetery on Sundays; that 50 shelter trees be obtained fertile cemetery, to be planted by the sexton where directed by tiro committee ; that an acre of laud bo acquired near the cemetery and a house erected upon it for the caretaker, provided tho laud can be acquired at a reasonable price; that 500 shelter and ornamental trees ho obtained for planting Victoria Park, tiro trees to he selected by the committee and planted by its direction; that the pine trees in Victoria Park he topped. On tho recommendation of the Sub-Works Committee it was decided to put in crossings for Messrs McKenzie, J. Darragh, Trass and Barry, applicants to supply pipes and timber.
That W. Barry’s application re footpath be granted, and that attention of Borough Engineer be called to drains on Kimbpltou road from Mr Thompson’s to brickyard.
