The Taihapo Club sent a team to play the Martou Club aud were victorious in defeating the latter by four goals to three. The game was played on Mrs Humphrey’s ground. Owing to thc-rccout rains the ground was not in first class order, nevertheless a fair exhibition of .hockey was given. The game opened fast aud willing aud Martou were successful in scoring a goal in the first five minutes of the game, which was shot by D. Smith. Taihapo got on some good forward rushes aud scored three goals in quick succession, the first spoil ending Taihape 3, Martou 1. Martou went all to pieces in this spell; they seemed to lose their heads aud were hitting hliudly aud making very bad mulls of the fielding, especially the backs, who would persist in speculating aud making poor defence ; the forwards were hitting too sraight ahead into their opponents’ hacks. Both teams got to work willing in the second spell and Taihape again scored. Martou now attacked but Taihape’s defence was too sound. Peyton aud the goalkeeper, Reid, kept up a solid defence. Martou had the best of the game in the last quarter of the game aud were successful in notching two goals, shot by Aiken. gThoy shot a third goal, but it was disallowed by the referee. The game ended Taihapo 4, Martou *3. For the winners S. Reid, Peyton, McGregor aud Sommorvail played well, while for the losers D. Smith, 4. Signal, iScrimgour aud Aiken played well. ” Mr R. H. Carey made an impartial referee. The visitors were entertained at the White Hart by the Marton team aud expressed themselves very pleased with their day’s outing.
