President Fallieres was returning from a review' at Longchamps when as he was passing along tho Avenue Marigny in Paris two revolver shots were fired by a naval reservist named Maillo. Two policemen seized Maillo and prevented him firing again. Tho shots hit no one. AT. Eaillieres turned slightly pale hut smiled and bowed and drove on. The police consider Maillo deranged though ho denies any mental aberration and states that his motive in firing was to attract attention to a grievance between himself and the State.
