Auckland, July 8.
A private cable reports that the Norwegian barque Yiking has been abandned, and also reports the deaths of Captain Harold 0. Pettersen and his wife, to whom he was married just before leaving Auckland for New York on May 2nd. Mrs Pettersen was the daughter of Mr J. D. Stewart, manager of the Kauri Timber Company’s mill at Hokianga. Nothing is stated as to the fate of the remainder of the vessel’s crew, which was as follows N. Olansen, first mate; N. Oartinsen, second mate; J. Johansen, cook and steward; T. O. Mundseu, carpenter J S. Arnsen, sailmaker ;M. E. Liudsen, A. Kittolson, Oholm, O. Lundholm, G. Green, D. G. Munro, J. Owens and A. McDonald, seamen. The Yiking’s cargo from Auckland was chiefly kauri gum, valued at £45,000.
