BIRTH ON THE MOKOIA.

(Per Press Association.! CUKISTCHUKOH, July 3'

An oightoon-yoar-old single girl, who travelled from Dunedin to Lyttelton on •Tuesday night on the s.s. Mokoia, gave birth to a female child during tho night. She was attended by two stewardesses and a married woman who was a passenger. Tho child died, however, before the vessel reached Lyttelton. An inquest was held at L3’ttelton this afternoon on the body of the infant. Evidence was given that tho child was bom about 2 a.m., but did not breathe properly, and after an attack of convulsions died between 3 and 4. There was no medical man on the boat, but the stewardess did everything she could for tho child. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony that death was due to congenital weakness.
