THE COAL LUMPERS’ DISPUTE.
Press Association —Copyright. AlEpnoußNE, July 2. When the Coal Lumpers’ Conference was resumed it was decided to conduct it with open doors. The coal lumners submitted the following proposals for rates , d £ -p-.yDay work Is Od per hour, overtime excepting Saturday 2s 3d. Saturday 2s, afternoon to midnight 3s ; abolition of’ Sunday work; payment for time men are kept waiting; that two men shall not carry more than seven yards; and the recognition of the Coal Lumpers’ Union. After a lengthy discussion the lumpers’ delegates undertook to protect free laborers from molestation provided they were engaged through certain recognised channels. The steam collier owners and stevedores’ delegates agreed to raise no objection to free laborers joining and foremen being members of the Union. Discussing rates of pay the UniOn delegates su" fT osted letting the Arbitration award go and fixing up an agreement independent of it. The employers’ represontatives claimed that tho rates domanded were equal to forty per cent increase on present rates, and asked foi time to consult other members of tho Association.'- Tho Conference adjourned tfntil to-morrow.
